So crafty!

This weekend, Mr. Thorn started a craft project with the kids. He never revealed to me(during all our years of marriage) that he was a master at the art of camp crafts. So they are all busy making lanyards. It is not 100% peaceful but they are all busy in varying degrees. My youngest was getting tired of the same colors and project so I created a monster by introducing her to the art of the friendship bracelet. It's been years since I did these so we haven't figured out how to keep it laying flat but I hope in the end, it will stay flat....maybe. Here are some instruction links in case you want to try these at home.

Friendship Bracelet

Lanyards

If anyone has been making these as of late with their kids, keeping the threads from twisting during knotting is something of interest to us. Ha. No one on the Internet has issues, or so it seems.

Take cover!

Chaos in my house. There are tornadoes warnings all over our region. We are in the pseudo-basement of our house under blankets with m&m's. We have a "weather expert" child so he was proud to say he called the "bow echo" he saw in the sky and on the news. I know I shouldn't be on the computer. It is close quarters in the other room and they are glued to the television. My mom called and said "where are you?" and then when she heard "downstairs" she about hung up. We had serious wind, rain and hail here. We were moments away from going to the drug store to pick up a prescription. I think we will hang tight right now.
Mr. Thorn called all the little Thorns outside to watch the rotating clouds and I didn't feel it was a good form of Sunday entertainment so I called them back in and tried to negate the vision of swirling stuff in the sky. Mom is on the phone again. We are comparing notes on the whole event. Spooky.

Mommy quote of the day

Mid-summer makes mommies nutty. My friend said to her son today "I'm not paying $2 if you are going to wash the car dumb".

We are now neck and neck in the momism contest. Last week I told the middle son "That's it, you have no brother for the rest of the day. You lost him."

He spent the next three hours asking if he could have his brother back. We do what we gotta do. We aren't mental, we are moms.

So, she has a 'tude.

Preparing for game night, I told the littlest Thorn to fetch the Jiffy Pop. She said "Mom, I told you I don't like popcorn!" I answered "But this is *Jiffy Pop*". She said, with the Jiffy Pop in her hand "Hey, I know a great thing you can do with it, hit people in the head". I need to keep an eye on that one. The toot.

Cause I don't want coal...

The latest conversation with the littlest Thorn went like this:
"Um, I think I will really try to behave today"
"Oh?"
"Yeah, cause I really, really, really don't want coal"
"Huh. Well why is that?"
"Because it is messy and when I play with it, you would yell at me for making a mess"
"Really? I didn't think of that."
"Yeah but I plan on giving it to _____(her oldest brother) because he would really like it if I do get coal"
"Sounds like you have it all worked out then"

Mr. Thorn sends these...

Every once in awhile...

KIDS IN CHURCH
3-year-old Reese:
"Our Father, Who does art in heaven,
Harold is His name.
Amen."
~~~~~~~~~~~~ ~~~~~~~~~ ~~~~~~~~~ ~~~
A little boy was overheard praying:
"Lord, if you can't make me a better boy, don't worry about it.
I'm having a real good time like I am."
~~~~~~~~~~~~ ~~~~~~~~~ ~~~~~~~~~ ~~~~~

After the christening of his baby brother in church,
Jason sobbed all the way home in the back seat of the car.
His father asked him three times what was wrong.
Finally, the boy replied,
"That preacher said he wanted us brought up in a Christian home,
and I wanted to stay with you guys."
~~~~~~~~~~~~ ~~~~~~~~~ ~~~~~~~~
One particular four-year-old prayed,
"And forgive us our trash baskets
as we forgive those who put trash in our baskets."
~~~~~~~~~~~~ ~~~~~~~~~ ~~~~~~~~~ ~~~~~

A Sunday school teacher asked her children as they
were on the way to church service,
"And why is it necessary to be quiet in church?"
One bright little girl replied,
"Because people are sleeping."
~~~~~~~~~~~~ ~~~~~~~~~ ~~~~~~~~~ ~~~~~
A mother was preparing pancakes for her sons, Kevin 5, and Ryan 3
The boys began to argue over who would get the first pancake.
Their mother saw the opportunity for a moral lesson.
"If Jesus were sitting here, He would say,
'Let my brother have the first pancake, I can wait.'
Kevin turned to his younger brother and said,
"Ryan, you be Jesus!"
~~~~~~~~~~~~ ~~~~~~~~~ ~~~~~~~~~ ~~~~~~

A father was at the beach with his children
when the four-year-old son ran up to him,
grabbed his hand, and led him to the shore
where a seagull lay dead in the sand.
" Daddy, what happened to him?" the son asked.
"He died and went to Heaven," the Dad replied.
The boy thought a moment and then said,
"Did God throw him back down?"
~~~~~~~~~~~~ ~~~~~~~~~ ~~~~~~~~~ ~~~~
A wife invited some people to dinner.
At the table, she turned to their six-year-old daughter and said,
"Would you like to say the blessing?"
"I wouldn't know what to say," the girl replied.
"Just say what you hear Mommy say," the wife answered.
The daughter bowed her head and said,
"Lord, why on earth did I invite all these people to dinner?"
Painting with kids
I spent the day teaching the kids to paint. There is a new product called "liquid watercolors" and while they are cool, I need to fine tune my instructions on craft projects. Sometimes crafts become an occasion of sin for me if I blow my stack. Lets put it this way....they are SUPER pigmented. I purchased some bleed paper that allows the color to have a batik effect and also blend the colors as it is very fibrous. To make a long story short, the paint bled through everything and was way to dark since I did not add water first. Next time, I will know. Best part was the kids had fun and it cleaned up easily. If I have time later, I will share photos of our projects. We attempted underwater scenes first and florals second. Supposedly these work great on coffee filters. I'm worn out after that and lunch time. We got our Latin text books today! Don't know if I am up for that. My goal is to teach them all rosary prayers by heart by the end of summer.
