Confuse-edd

This weekend, we went to a parish we had visited before but it was, well odd. I am *hoping* this was a first Low Mass but I can't be certain. The servers were being trained prior to Mass so I am leaning that way. The music and placement was just out of left field. They used the St. Francis Peace Prayer song during the offertory, Gift of Finest Wheat during communion and the recessional was America the Beautiful. My kids looked at me like I knew what was taking place. I did not. The patriotic hymn really threw me for a loop. Yes, it was a Low Mass, yes it was entirely in Latin and otherwise genuine to the 1962 Missal. I didn't notice others feeling something was odd so who knows. I pray the EF Mass with my family to avoid the schmaltzy hymns. Now what? Unfortunately, there is no other church that offers the EF in this city. I know, things could be worse. I think this was my first experience with an EF being wicketty-whack so I was taken aback. I used to look forward to this church too(after being raked over the coals by my in-laws every visit) and I think the general feeling is just "bummed". Oh, and before they had an EF at this parish, the music was always reverent, traditional and beautiful. So they had traditional hymns in the NO. Sigh. Who knows.

No, it was up in Ohio. If I hadn't been there before, it wouldn't have been so shocking. The wierdest part is, when I told my mother what song they used for the offertory(St. Francis), I said "then for communion they played..." and she said "Gift of Finest Wheat?" It was spooky.....She said "those two songs go together". It is actually good to know we will be going to St. Bernard's Sunday. No surprises.
