How can I not be angry?

The Age of Autism: 'A pretty big secret'

(found via NOR link)

From the article:
But thousands of children cared for by Homefirst Health Services in metropolitan Chicago have at least two things in common with thousands of Amish children in rural Lancaster: They have never been vaccinated. And they don't have autism.

"Sometimes you feel frustrated because you feel like you've got a pretty big secret," Schattauer said. He argues for more research on all those disorders, independent of political or business pressures.

Earlier this year Florida pediatrician Dr. Jeff Bradstreet said there is virtually no autism in home-schooling families who decline to vaccinate for religious reasons -- lending credence to Eisenstein's observations.

"It's largely non-existent," said Bradstreet, who treats children with autism from around the country. "It's an extremely rare event."

The article is from 2005. Wow. In all my research, I have never come across these findings. It is mind-blowing that the Amish and non-secularized populations of children have not been brought to the forefront in this issue of vaccinations. While I agree that vaccines have rid our society of many diseases, is the millions and millions of cases of autism worth where we are now? The government has not helped our family with aid and help for the current crisis.(We finally qualified for the Kentucky Autism Waiver program about 10 months ago. The first "aid" in my sons 11 years with autism) It is something that will burden our family for the rest of our lives. I blame myself for my second son being autistic. I knew better and I caved to my doctors demands. Why? Pride. I didn't want to lose a "good doctor" and I was embarrassed every time I came to the office and was lectured. That guilt will haunt me forever. He could have had a normal life. Don't fault parents that don't vaccinate. Until the socialist government that is supposed to protect us comes up with a better plan, cut us a freaking break. You aren't living with this, we are. You aren't taking the blame for this, we are(this is directed to those who have visited my blog with non-so-nice comments about how my lack of parenting skills will be responsible for the downfall of our modern world). I have much to be thankful for but vaccines and the "CDC" aren't on the list. I have only one child they didn't get their hooks into. I intend to keep it that way.

For as many people who have children with Spectrum disorders who were vaccinated, they are many children who have been vaccinated and are not on the Spectrum. I think it is wrong to condemn vaccination outright because of a few ill-effects.
I am one of three children: oldest high-functioning autist, middle aspie, youngest other learning diabilities. I don't blame vaccination. Our father clearly falls on the spectrum but was never formally diagnosed.

It may be true in your case, as autism is a more modern diagnosis for a disorder which may have been around for ages. You cannot, however, convince me that my son did not "get" autism within 30 days after his shots at 4 yrs of age. He was normal and now is clearly autistic. I will continue condemning vaccines as I see proof and lawsuits abound in this country. China was free of autism until western pharm companies toted needles over the borders and innoculated thier youth.

see http://environment.about.com/od/earthtalkcolumns/a/autism.htm:

Do U.S. Drug Companies Export Autism?
Due to the concerns of Kennedy and thousands of like-minded parents, vaccine manufacturers have begun to phase thimerosal out of injections given to American infants. Unfortunately, though, they have continued to export their back stock of tainted vaccines to developing countries, according to Kennedy. For instance, autism was virtually unknown in China prior to the introduction of thimerosal by U.S. drug makers in 1999; today approximately 1.8 million Chinese children suffer from the disorder. Even so, industry groups complain that a direct link between autism and thimerosal has not been definitively proven.

Again, I now have to worry about the care and normalcy of my boys now until even after I am gone. The current case: http://www.cnn.com/2008/HEALTH/conditions/03/06/vaccines.autism/
has given parents hope that we are not imagining the change in our children after a vaccine. My son lost ability to speak, toileting and sleep. That is a fact, not debatable. If these poison vaccines were not mandated, I would have a normal child.

Dear Thorn,

I have a neice who, while not autistic, has very similar symptoms. She has been diagnosed with ACC: Agenesis of the Corpus Collosum. The Corpus Collosum is the hubcap of the brain, and it did not form for my niece Tristyn. She is the second oldest of my sister's four children, and she has many of the same struggles that you do in worry over the future and what may come of her daughter. For her, the pain is particularly intense as well, as their is evidence that Tania had a virus of some type that caused this during pregnancy: "How could I have done this to my daughter?" is a question she asked herself often.

Please be assured of my prayers for you and your boys. Please offer your prayers for my sister and her daughter as well. I will mention your case to them asking for prayers as well.

One thing I know Tania struggles with is feeling alone in this battle. Please know you are never alone, but are surrounded in prayer by those who love you, especially Our Lord.
