Local...um church.

I can post this here because they sent me a postcard and so I feel obliged. This "church" is for people who have given up on church. Here is how they advertise:

"People do things they enjoy. Not enough people enjoy church. When it comes to church, we want to replace boring, predictable, and irrelevant with challenging, refreshing and authentic.

CHURCH
1. Dress up
2. Hand over some money
3. Take a nap
4. Remember: laughing and fun prohibited
5. Rock out to the organ

NOT HERE!"

So, that's how they get you in. Oddly enough, I like those things I'm not "supposed to like"(I wait to nap at home). I guess my church is not authentic because they have those things. Rock out to the organ...snort. So God doesn't want me to tithe, dress my best for Him or be reverent? I normally don't comment on such things but this church opened that door when they sent a postcard to my residence. Honestly, who would be interested in a church that resembles a Saturday night get together with friends? Shouldn't church be more than that? Doesn't God deserve our best instead of sloppy seconds? In case your interested, the site for this palace of Christendom can be found here:

I blogged on this last year - someone saw a bumper sticker that said, "This is CHURCH??" from something like Watermark Community Church - implying the same thing.
This is CHURCH?
Well, no, actually. It's not.

"People do things they enjoy.

I do things I enjoy, like bask in the Real Presence of Christ. Also, most sins are enjoyable; gluttony, sloth, lust; but that doesn't make it good for you. Gee, that sounds like drugs too, hmmm.

Not enough people enjoy church.

This is sadly true; perhaps the truest statement in the whole advert.

When it comes to church, we want to replace boring,

NOT!

predictable,

I like predictable, no surprises; there is great comfort in routines (read /any/ child rearing book).

and irrelevant

Maybe at your "church".

with challenging, refreshing and authentic.

The Word of God in the Liturgy of the Word and the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass is always challenging, refreshing and most definately authentic!

CHURCH
1. Dress up

Yes, please do! It shows respect to God and the other members of your parish!

2. Hand over some money

Only what you have to give, remember the poor widow and her two coins.

3. Take a nap

I'm with you about after Mass! All 3 of us end up taking a nap more often than not! :D

4. Remember: laughing and fun prohibited

Only when it is time for being solomn (sp), after all, the death of Jesus is no laughing matter.

5. Rock out to the organ

Ummm...Okay, I do this one, at least in my head. What can I say, I love organ music, especially the Gloria!

NOT HERE!"

Then don't be surprised not to see me. If I wanted a casual bible study, I'll join one (or start one).

Ach, people!
God Bless!
