Venerable Solanus Casey

a prayer by Fr. Solanus Casey:

LIFE is to live
and life is to give
and talents are to use
for good if you choose.
Do not pray for easy lives.
Pray to be stronger.
Do not pray for tasks equal to your powers.
Pray for powers equal to your tasks.
then the doing of your work
shall be no miracle
but you shall be a miracle.
Every day you shall wonder at yourself.
at the richness of life
which has come to you by the grace of God.
But everyone needs someone.
knowing that somewhere someone is thinking of you.

God's plans are always for the best: always wonderful. But most especially for the patient and the humble who trust in Him are His plans unfathomably holy and sublime. There is a little verse I am sure will profit you to keep in mind and ought to help you foster confidence in God: "God condescends to use our powers, if we don't spoil His plans by ours."

God has give a specially beautiful coloring to the love of those whose privilege it is to have become earnest and faithful parents. To raise children for God and society, is manifestly-pleasing to God. And this, whether by natural or adoption.

That's a really great prayer. Fr Solanus' remains are at St Bonaventure in Detroit, where he served as porter while a member of the order there. The center (while a little too ecumenical for my liking, but beautiful nonetheless) and Church get quite a few visitors - and the priests hear confession at the top of every hour from 9:00 AM to 4:00 PM (except for 1:00 PM for lunch). I couldn't tell you how many times I've taken advantage of the sacrament over the past 7 years.
