Free speech gone wrong

Top US court rules against 'Bong Hits 4 Jesus'
Do we even need a law to say you shouldn't promote illegal drug use in school? What happened to common sense? If a school can no longer enforce common sense policies, we are in trouble.

Thankfully the court didn't go nuts and PC in a wild manner on this one.

But in a five-three decision, the Supreme Court found that schools "may take steps to safeguard those entrusted to their care from speech that can reasonably be regarded as encouraging illegal drug use."

The 3/5 decision is troublesome. That means either three justices are smoking weed or they think schools should allow children to say whatever they want regardless of the consequences.

It is possible they voted no because it was not worded strongly enough, or there were loop holes, or for some other reason. It would be interesting to read their reasons - I belive they are required to make a statement.

Agreed, it will be interesting to see. Teachers and school authorities have so many restrictions as it is on what they can't do, it is hard to believe someone is trying to make the job even harder.
