I found some wonderful old photos online of the Cathedral. I'm not sure of the dates on these as there was none listed. I'm guessing early 1960/late 1950's just from the women's heads and the lack of wreckavation.

These photos from 1968, the demolition of St. Patrick Church on Philadelphia St. in Covington. Below is a photo prior to the demolition.
Here is an excerpt of why it was demolished:
St. Patrick Parish was established in Covington in 1872 to serve the large Irish community located on the city's west side. The church, located on Philadelphia Street at Elm, was dedicated on August 22, 1872. The parish was one of three English-speaking congregations established by the Diocese of Covington to serve Covington's Irish immigrant population. A parish school was established in 1876. In 1891, the Sisters of Charity of Nazareth agreed to staff the school.
In the years following World War II, the neighborhood surrounding St. Patrick dramatically changed. Catholic families were moving to the suburbs south of Covington. They were being replaced by large numbers of non-Catholic Appalachian migrants. In addition, the construction of Interstate 75 and a large internal revenue facility resulted in the demolition of many homes in the area. Parish membership dropped as a result. The parish closed in 1967 and the buildings were demolished to make way for a automobile service station.

If the first pic and the second pic were at the same time, it must have been the death of John XXIII.
The one with the black drapes was a requim. It did not give specifics. I got nothing done this morning looking through all these old photos. Eh, at least I am dressed for Mass now :)
